Strategies
There
are are a number of core strategies that are used to pursue
operational and process excellence. While no one strategy
is necessarily more important than another, organizations can
construct process excellence
strategies that will work best for their given situation and
objectives.
There
are two broad approaches, or macro-strategies, useful for
framing process
excellence. One is incremental, continuous improvement on
existing processes. The other is significant, innovative,
process change that may completely do away with existing
processes and replace then with new processes.
Which
of these approaches is the right approach, and to what degree,
will depend on the unique situation of each organization and
what they hope to achieve. Each approach has different implications.
The impact on the organization, the depth of change required, and
the capabilities needed to implement them will vary. This should be fully understood before engaging in
any major program to improve performance.
