What is process excellence?

Process excellence is achieved when activities are in total alignment with the mission, strategy, and objectives of an organization.  There are are only value-added activities without waste.

Achieving process excellence requires doing the right things, and doing them right.

An organization that has a high level of process excellence is cost efficient, effective at serving its customers, has low levels of working capital relative to their industry, and higher productivity.  Other characteristics may include enhanced revenues and superior cycle-times and throughput.

Process excellent organizations also innovate new ways of operating their business that may result in significant change and differentiation from competing organizations, and significant reduction in the underlying cost structure.

The motivation for any organization to pursue process excellence in one or more areas of operation is compelling.  All industries can benefit from process excellence, and is indeed a requirement for the creation of sustainable value.
